Why are Teacup Poodles so expensive?

 In order for anyone to truly understand why Teacups are so expensive; one must breed them to experience the demand, the sacrifices, the time involved and the level of neonate care required. Many have tried and failed. Neonatal refers to the first 28 days of life. 

 

Teacup new born usually weigh 2 to 4 ounce a birth. A tiny baby like this must keep warm and nurse frequently. 

Larger, stronger pups in a litter will naturally push tiny ones away from the mother so it can nurse and get warmth first. A breeder must continually monitor and assist if the tiny pup is to survive. This means the breeder must drop everything they are doing and give their undivided attention to your future teacup puppy. 

Many people are under the impression breeding Teacup poodles is a get rich quick income.

People assume teacup puppies just appear after 2 small poodles have bred. This idea is so far from reality!

A True Teacup is not a runt! 

Teacups were developed by down sizing through many generations. 

The Miniature and the Toy Poodle were also developed 

by down sizing from the beautiful Standard Poodle. 

 

 

I Chose to be a breeder. 

I know the responsibilities and the Scarifies that come with my JOB.

 

Females come into heat every 6 to 7 months. I breed a female once a year, nature decides when pups will be born. 

 

This is just to name a few sacrifices I have made to be a breeder.

Christmas and New years with family and friends, 

Summer Holidays, 

Family reunion,  

A quite dinner with friends,  

Sleeping in on a Sunday morning.

 

 

 

 

The price of a teacup can be more expensive compared to larger breeds.

Most often Teacups are bred from Teacup parents or Tiny Toys. An average litter produced from teacup parents consist of 1 to 2 pups. 

As you can see that is not very many pups to profit from considering the mother is only bred once a year. 

 

Large breeds average 8 to12 pups per litter. Cost per pup may be lower but they have more pups to sell.  

And in most cases no specialized neonatal care required.

 

 

 

Time   =   Money

 

How much is your Time worth?

If a breeder were to calculate their time spent on producing teacup poodles, most people couldn't afford such a dog. 

 

The largest loss for a breeder is their time. 

Breeding Teacups is NOT a 9 to 5 job. 

It starts when the breeder open their eyes in the morning, until they go to bed at night, which is usually 12:00 or 1:00 for me. 

 

And that is if I don't have to get up through the night to feed new born babies or assist a mother giving birth, which usually is in the wee hours of the morning. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Some general duties for a breeder are listed below.

 

Puppy training,    Daily laundry,    cleaning,     Making food.

Feeding puppies several times a day,      Assisting in breeding and deliveries.

Docking tails and removing dew claws,     Showing puppies to potential customers.

Appointments with the vet for adults and puppies,        Administering vaccines.

Worming and medications,     Bathing and Grooming. minimum 3 hours per Poodle.

Daily yard clean up,    weekly yard sterilization,     Paper work,     Teeth cleaning....
